Coastal Pet Rescue Seeks Relief for Animal Cruelty Victims
Savannah, GA February 02, 2006
Coastal Pet Rescue wants to give two dogs—victims of animal cruelty—hope for normal lives. The organization is seeking financial donations to assist with the dogs’ medical care and volunteers to serve as foster homes until the dogs can be adopted.
The two dogs were found by Chatham-Savannah Animal Control without food, water or shelter. The dogs were severely malnourished, underweight, and required immediate veterinary attention. While the dogs have begun to show improvement under care of Animal Control, Coastal Pet Rescue would like to request custody of the dogs, give them further medical treatment, and place them in foster homes where the organization believes they will thrive and become highly adoptable pets.
The organization has visited with the dogs while in Animal Control to evaluate their temperaments and general conditions. “Charlie, the male dog, is exceptionally outgoing,” says Mandy Ownley, Special Projects Coordinator for Coastal Pet Rescue. “Every bone in his body is visible and he has bed sores on his hind quarters, yet he still found the energy to give lots of kisses and wiggle his rear end.” Michelle, the female dog, is shyer than her male counterpart, according to Ownley. “Michelle has a sweet personality, though she is timid when you first enter her cage. She seemed to cherish every scratch behind her ears or pat on the head. She just yearned for some kind of contact.”
Charlie is black and white bull terrier mix and is expected to reach approximately 50 pounds when healthy. Michelle is yellow bull terrier mix and is expected to reach approximately 35 pounds when healthy. Both dogs need to be tested for heartworms, vaccinated and spayed/neutered in addition to receiving continued medical treatment related to their malnourished condition.
