Local Pet Rescuer Graduates School with a Few New Tricks and Honors
Savannah, GA December 22, 2007
It’s never too late for a dog to learn new tricks, and pet rescuer Lisa Scarbrough felt the same for herself.
Armed already with an Associate of Arts from Andrew College and a Bachelor of General Studies from Georgia Southern University, Scarbrough felt she needed to know much more to facilitate the rapid growth of the animal welfare organization she founded in 2003, Coastal Pet Rescue.
In September 2005, Scarbrough enrolled in the Humane Leadership program through Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. The program is offered on-campus and on-line and is facilitated through a partnership between Duquesne University’s School of Leadership and Professional Advancement and the Humane Society of the United States.
The accelerated Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies degree-completion program is designed for individuals working in animal care and control facilities in the United States and provides targeted, specific knowledge that will support their career goals in animal advocacy and shelter management.
Through her 60 hours of coursework, Scarbrough received instruction from leaders in the field of animal care and control on topics to enhance her ability to handle the internal organizational, community-based, and personal demands of working in and operating an animal welfare agency. Additionally, she completed numerous business courses including strategic planning, volunteer management, and financial development.
Scarbrough attended the university’s ceremony December 20th and graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors.
Founded in February 2003, Coastal Pet Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue organization based in Savannah, Georgia dedicated to saving the lives of homeless, abused and neglected dogs and cats in the Creative Coast Savannah and Lowcountry South Carolina areas.
