What We Do

Pet Rescue

Provide rescue to abused, abandoned, neglected or otherwise homeless pets that are legally surrendered to Coastal Pet Rescue. These pets are placed in foster homes to receive any necessary veterinary care, including required vaccinations and sterilization, socialization, basic training and temperment evaluation. The pet is then placed for adoption through a pre-adoption process that includes an application, home visit interview with the applicant(s), and veterinarian reference check. Please Note: We are not a law enforcement agency. We cannot go onto private property to remove animals.

Placement Assistance

Coastal Pet Rescue offers placement assistance to those needing to re-home their pets. An interview with a CPR member is required, and once accepted, owners must sign a contract and adhere to the adoption policies as set by Coastal Pet Rescue. All pets must be spayed or neutered and current on vaccinations before acceptance.

Trap-Neuter-Return for Feral Cats

In July 2005, Coastal Pet Rescue lauched a feral cat trap-neuter-return program, The Milton Project. The program seeks to help neighbors gain control of feral cat colonies and limit reproduction. Feral cats are trapped, taken to the vet for sterilization and rabies, and returned back to their colony.

Humane Education

Provide humane education to the public to make them better pet guardians and help reduce the pet overpopulation. We coordinate pet expos where other groups come together with us to do presentations on important pet issues, such as proper pet care and the need for controlling the pet overpopulation. We also do presentations at area schools as we believe educating children early will help them be good pet guardians later.

Low-Cost Microchipping

In an effort to lower euthanasia rates at animal control, Coastal Pet Rescue began offering low-cost microchipping clinics to the public three years ago. For just $10, pets will be microchipped with a 24PetWatch microchip. There is no cost for updating information after registration, and 24PetWatch provides online tools to help reunite your pets when they get lost. Additionally, the chips can be read by any scanner at shelters, rescues and animal control facilities. Please visit our events page for the next clinic date.

Rescue Transports

Our volunteers also participate in rescue transports, which are coordinated through various rescues across the country. The drivers donate their own time (usually 2-hour/200 mile minimum) and gas to these transports. The transports are used to get animals into rescues from kill shelters, relocate them for veterinary emergencies, or get them to their new adoptive homes.
